Colossal Curl™ and London Rocks™ Debut Memorial Day Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 22, 2014) – Busch Gardens® and Water Country USA® are entering the final phases of construction for two of Virginia’s most anticipated can’t miss experiences. The parks opened the construction gates today to offer media outlets a first look at Colossal Curl™, Water Country USA’s newest family thrill attraction, and a sneak peak of the new stage under construction for Busch Gardens’ new London Rocks™ show at the Williamsburg park’s Globe Theatre.

Park officials announced May 23 as the official opening of  Colossal Curl and London Rocks. True to its name, Colossal Curl will thrill guests with a high-adrenaline, action-packed water slide adventure. The park’s first family thrill attraction features a funnel element that will swish and swirl up to four riders aboard a cloverleaf-shaped raft before whisking them through the slide’s enclosed tubes on their way to a wave element that hurtles them high above the park. The unique combination of funnel and wave thrill elements, makes Colossal Curl the only attraction of its kind in North America.

“Colossal Curl is Water Country USA’s first family thrill water ride. With its funnel and wave elements, I am confident Colossal Curl will be a pinnacle attraction for guests visiting the Williamsburg area,” said Jeff Thomas, Water Country USA’s vice president.

Busch Gardens’ newest show, London Rocks, also premieres May 23. An international team of more than 500 artists and craftsmen are putting the final touches on London Rocks, which takes guests on a musical journey through British rock ‘n’ roll culture in this rousing live-action and multimedia rock spectacular.
London Rocks has been four years in the making and takes Busch Gardens’ live performances to an unprecedented level in terms of technological innovation and creative talent. It also marks the permanent return of live entertainment to the Globe Theatre after a nearly 20-year absence.

“We are returning the Globe Theatre to its rightful place as Busch Gardens’ premier live performance space,” said Scott Gasparich, vice president of Entertainment for the Williamsburg theme park.

A new stage has been constructed for the show, along with a monochromatic set representing London’s pre-rock era that bursts into a colorful psychedelic journey through the heyday of British rock music. Super powerful video projectors and nearly 2,000 audio speakers will turn the Globe Theatre into a rock-and-roll mecca for music fans of any age.
