New Show Marks The Return Of Live Entertainment To The Globe Theatre

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 16, 2014) – Busch Gardens’ new London Rocks™ show is a hit with park guests. The park offered guests a sneak peek of the performance Friday morning, one week ahead of its May 23 premiere.

“Officially, park guests watched one of London Rocks’ final technical dress rehearsals today,” said Entertainment Vice President Scott Gasparich. “Opening the theater to the public provided our team the final ingredient, the audience.  Receiving instant feedback allows us to make adjustments to the timing and the details that bring a production to life.”

Gasparich said when the show opens May 23 that park guests will experience a technological and theatrical benchmark show production within the theme-park industry.

“We’ve brought Broadway to Busch Gardens® in a 27-minute multi-media spectacular,” he said.

An international team of more than 500 artists and craftsmen created London Rocks, which takes guests on a musical journey through British rock ‘n’ roll culture.

The show’s producers, designers, directors, casts and technicians will study the rehearsals over the next week and make adjustments to the production so it meets the park’s high quality standards for world-class live entertainment. London Rocks marks the permanent return of live entertainment to the Globe Theatre and establishes its rightful place as Busch Gardens’ premier live performance space.

The theater received a new stage for the show, along with a monochromatic set representing London’s pre-rock era that bursts into a colorful psychedelic journey through the heyday of British rock music. The transformation is brought to life through 110,000 lumens of video-mapped imagery produced by five state-of-the-art projectors installed specifically for the production. The set, overlaid with custom video animation and classic British rock music, draws the audience into a compelling story about a young girl’s journey to adulthood and the music that influenced her life along the way.

Concert-style lighting and nearly 2,000 audio speakers—79 audio speakers around the perimeter of the theatre and two speakers in every seat—provides an immersive surround-sound experience for guests regardless of where they sit.

“We’ve never produced a show of this magnitude here at Busch Gardens,” Gasparich said. “The state-of-the-art technology used for London Rocks offers production possibilities we never thought possible at the park.”

Busch Gardens’ England village also received a makeover to go with the new show. The park’s design team re-envisioned England to carry the show’s theme into the park village, creating an immersive environment that embraces contemporary British culture.

“The elements we added to the English village complement the show and create a new experience for guests while still retaining the charm of the area that our guests love,” Gasparich said.
