Lion Cubs

Three adorable lion cubs are now at Edge of Africa at various times at Busch Gardens® Tampa.

Three adorable lion cubs are the most recent addition to the more than 12,000 animals at Busch Gardens® Tampa.

The two females and one male arrived at Busch Gardens from South Africa May 18, 2013. The two females, who are sisters, were born March 20, 2013. The male, who is not related to the females, was born Feb. 20, 2013.

Busch Gardens' Facebook Fans named the two sisters. The winning names for the cubs are Shaba, meaning “brazen”, and Shtuko, meaning “twitch”. All three cubs have genetic lines from the Kalahari and Kruger regions of South Africa, where lions are recognized for their large size and impressive manes on the males.

They are just a few months old, and as cute as can be. They're growing fast though, so be sure to get to Busch Gardens to see them soon! All three cubs are very playful and love to run, chase and "stalk" each other.

More information and updates about the progress of the new cubs will be posted on Facebook.

The Busch Gardens animal care team has started introducing the cubs to the Edge of Africa attraction at the park, where guests can see the cubs at various times. Stop by in the morning to ask an Educator what times they will be out on their habitat.
